Situated at the entrance of Yangtze River, Yangshan Deep Sea Port is the gateway for second tier industry cities in mainland China along the Yangtze River with high populations, such as Chongqing and Wuhan.

Yangshan Port is connected mainly by the Donghai Bridge which is the second longest (32.5km) cross-sea bridge in the world and is 80km far from Shanghai Pudong International Airport.
Since at its 2005 grand opening, Yangshan Deep Sea Port has consistently grown in terms of TEU handing from 3 Million TEU a year to over 10 Million TEU in 2010. The achievement is tremendous as it normally took other large international ports more than 10 years to reach this level.
On the other hand, Shanghai port has become the busiest port in the world with 29,069,000 TEUs in 2010. From 23% in 2007 to 35% in 2010, and is expected to continue its contribution to Shanghai port, Yangshan Port will be one of the major ports in Shanghai.
